Sports Physical Therapy in Morristown, VT

Don't Sit Out the Season.

Athletes and active adults come to us when pain or overuse is keeping them off the slopes, trails, or field. We find the root cause, build a plan around your sport, and keep you moving — one-on-one, every session.

What Keeps Athletes Stuck on the Sidelines

The Injury Keeps Coming Back

Rest and time off can quiet symptoms, but they don't fix what's causing the problem. Return to sport without addressing the root issue — a strength deficit, movement fault, or load tolerance problem — and the same injury shows up again. Often worse.

You Modify Around It and Stop Progressing

Dropping a movement, skipping training days, or switching sports feels reasonable short-term. Over time, those adjustments become the ceiling. Pain that goes unaddressed quietly narrows what you're able to do — and eventually, what you expect of yourself.

Compensation Leads to New Injuries

Compensating around a painful area shifts load to joints that weren't built to absorb it. What starts in the knee spreads to the hip. What starts in the shoulder shows up in the neck. The longer compensation goes unchecked, the broader the injury picture becomes.

Common Conditions We Treat

What We Help Athletes Work Through

Sports injuries and overuse conditions show up differently in every athlete. We work with skiers, trail runners, strength athletes, and recreational competitors dealing with issues that keep interrupting what they're training for.

Knee pain — runner's knee, patellar tendinopathy, and meniscus issues that flare with training or sport.

Shoulder pain and rotator cuff issues — people come to us when overhead pain is limiting throwing, lifting, or overhead sport.

Ankle sprains and Achilles tendinopathy — including athletes who want to return to cutting movements, trails, or distance running without fearing re-injury.

IT band syndrome and hip impingement — common in runners, cyclists, and skiers dealing with lateral hip and knee pain that won't resolve with rest alone.

Post-surgical return to sport — athletes cleared by their surgeon who need a structured, tested path back to full activity.

ACL and hamstring injuries — people rebuilding strength, control, and confidence after a tear or significant strain.

Overuse and load management issues — for athletes who push hard and need a plan that supports training continuity, not just symptom management.

What Athletes Say About Us

Hear from athletes and active adults who came in dealing with sports injuries — and left with a clear path back to what they love.

I have had several different sessions with Heidi at Stowe PTP and they have all been excellent! The facility is full of a wide variety of equipment, and the place is immaculate. All of the therapists are wonderful and take the time to help their clients learn all the necessary movements/exercises to improve range of motion and recovery from injuries. They offer on line exercises as well as a variety of thing to work at in the studio. I would highly recommend Stowe Physical Therapy & Pilates, PLLC

I have been in and out of PT for the past 34 years for Neck, Back, and Shoulder Problems. Started going to Heidi about 16 months ago and she has done more to correct my problems than all the other Physical Therapist combined that i saw for all these years.I am very appreciative for all Heidi has done in terms of relieving my issues and teaching me to be pro active in reducing the likely hood of continual problems.

As a long-time distance runner, I would occasionally have niggling injuries which would require PT. I had relied on Heidi Noonan for many years and found her to be excellent. So with my recent problem of a nerve issue in my glute, it made sense for me to try Stowe Pilates & PT since Heidi worked there. I saw Kat Dwyer for this problem, and she was amazing. Not only was my "ache" completely resolved in a couple of months, but Kat also found some muscle imbalances and prescribed some great exercises to fix those as well. I highly recommend them both.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about sports physical therapy at Stowe Physical Therapy & Pilates in Morristown, VT.

Do I need a referral to start sports PT?

No referral needed. Vermont is a direct access state, so you can schedule directly — no physician visit required first. We'll do a full evaluation on your first visit, establish a clear picture of what's going on, and build a return-to-sport plan from there.

How is sports PT different from general PT?

Sports PT here is performance-focused from the start. We use objective testing — force plates and movement screens — to measure your readiness and track progress toward return to sport. Every session is one-on-one for a full hour, with no hand-offs to aides. When appropriate, we incorporate dry needling to address tissue restrictions.

Do you take insurance?

We're cash-based — no insurance required. We can provide superbills for possible reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Many athletes find the one-on-one, full-hour model gets better results than insurance-limited care.

What does a return-to-sport timeline look like?

It depends on the injury, the sport, and where you're starting. After your evaluation, we'll give you a clear picture of what we're working toward and how we'll measure progress — including specific testing criteria before you return to full activity.

Can I keep training during sports PT?

Usually, yes — and that's part of the plan. We work with athletes who want to stay active throughout the process. We'll help you identify what's safe to keep doing, what needs to be modified, and how to load progressively so you're building toward full sport readiness.
